The cat is evil

Sorry for the wall of text. I'm just not sure what to do and don't understand what's happening.

The cat is 5, she's neutered and we took her to the vets yesterday but they couldn't find anything physically wrong with her. I'm running out of ideas and her behaviour is starting to affect my health and I don't know what to do.

My best friend got the cat about five years ago when she was a kitten. The family that had bought her, were getting her adopted because she was afraid of their baby. She's always been a pretty nervous cat, she jumps when the neighbours slam their doors and is an indoor cat. She's the only pet in the home. It's just me and her here. She was my friends cat but instead of being taken to a boarding place she came here every time my friend was on holiday or away with work.

A few weeks ago, the cat seemed to have a meltdown. She attacked my friend who she'd lived with for the last five years. My friend stayed here that weekend and went home and the cat was calmer and it all seemed okay, a little tense but my friend couldn't work out why. No changes in the household or even in the building they lived in. My friend became really scared after the cat attacked her a second time and so we got her stuff together and moved her to my place. She was fine until Friday last week and out of nowhere she hissed at me when I came in from taking the trash out. I ignored her and carried on with chores and thought things were fine. Later my friend came over and decided to spend the night, we were just hanging out when the cat made a noise like she was possessed and launched herself at my friend, who did her best to move out of the way but the cat chased her and she went home terrified.

Around 1.30am I was talking with some friends and gaming and was about to call it a night, when the cat decided I was going to be her next victim and I got a pretty nasty set of scratches on my foot. I managed to get into another room and somehow ended up sleeping on the couch to avoid her and let her have my room to chill in, I slept there the next night too and she let herself in somehow and seemed pretty normal again so I tried to act like I normally would and she sat on my lap and it was fine, until it wasn't. She turned around and looked at me and let out another howl and tried to scratch my face. I got away unharmed but she wouldn't stop coming at me. Anytime I tried to walk into a room, she'd hiss and jump at me. Twice since then I've managed to get her to calm down but she isn't okay. She'll come and sit on my bed and will roll around being cute but if I move in a way she doesn't like or look in her direction for too long, she attacks again. If I keep a door closed, she'll scream and cry like a baby for attention but if I go to give her attention she starts to hiss and then tries to attack me.

I've taken her to the vet and the vet said she's not in any pain and doesn't understand the aggression. She told me to buy feliway but I've got them already and the spray but it does little to help. I requested they do some blood work to see if she's diabetic or has a thyroid problem or something but I don't know how to live like this. I feel like my best friend is scared or hurting but if I try to help her she tries to hurt me.

I'm hiding in my room now. I'm scared of her now. I know she just wants to come into my room to sleep but I need to sleep too and I'm scared she'll attack me when I'm asleep. She's become dangerous and I don't know what to do.

Has anyone got any advice on what to do or how to protect myself from her?
