We found a dog today who is very clearly neglected/abused. It seems like she was used for a backyard breeder. She's got lots of cuts and sores, her teeth are horrible, and her teets are severely over used.
We want to keep her, get her to the vet, and save this beautiful girl. However, I'm not sure of the legality behind keeping and treating a stray. Everything I've read says we need to make an effort to find the owner, but with the condition she is in, I don't feel comfortable doing that! It's apparent that this sweet girl wasn't treated right.
Any ideas on the laws/legalities? Or what to do next?
