cheap otc pain relief options for my cat

Unfortunately for Viola, I am low income and can't afford vet visits or bills. I just graduated from college but the financial situation hasn't improved.

Viola is a 4 year old cat. 2 years ago, I noticed she must have had an accident because she was limping and showed reduced activity. She used to jump on top of the refrigerator, play, and snuggle all the time.

I thought it would be a good idea to give her a week to see if the injury was a sprain and if she would return to normal. After a week or so she seemed okay. However, it's been a couple years since the incident and she has been displaying more and more symptoms of pain.

She is solitary and she hisses when we try to pick her up. She has gained weight. She doesn't play anymore. And recently, she has groomed her pouch between her back legs so much that it is bald.

I can't afford surgery or x ray scans from the vet. I think she still has pain from the incident. What should I do? Try otc pain meds or scrounge up money for a vet visit? I love her to pieces I want to help her be comfortable again.
