For the past month my cat has been ripping her fur out, and now she’s not eating. What could be wrong?

Just as a disclaimer, I fully intend to get her to the vet. I’m gonna call tomorrow.

I have two cats and the one has suddenly started aggressively licking herself and chewing her fur out. She now has bald spots on the back of her legs and on her lower belly and a bit around her mouth.

I noticed she started doing that a few weeks ago and was hoping she would stop. Then for the past few days she just doesn’t really wanna seem to eat. She takes a few bites of her food and leaves it. Today I even gave them wet food (Purina pro plan tuna) as a treat and she gave it a couple licks and didn’t wanna touch it anymore. I’m started to get really worried

I’ve been cleaning and vacuuming especially where the cats eat and hang out (they have their own room), I changed litter brands, I’ve been cleaning their bowls regularly.

The only things I can think of that’s changed before she started ripping her fur out is:

  • I redid my steps (that I later found out had lead based paint on them that I sanded recklessly, but she’s not showing any signs of lead poisoning that I found on Google and my own doc said I’d have to have long term exposure to it for it to be a problem, so I assumed the same with pets?)
  • I put them on a diet but didn’t change food brands, and have just started seeing weight loss within the past two months I’d say
  • I’ve been away all weekend every weekend for a few weeks on different trips and parties and such. But otherwise I’m home a lot and give her lots of attention
  • The temperature has been steadily getting hotter (from around 40 F to today which was 87 F) and I’m wondering if maybe the heat is stressing her out?

Can anyone give me any ideas on what might be happening? I’m honestly just trying not to freak out. I have anxiety and my brain is just going to every worst case scenario lol
