3 month old kitten only pees outside litter box mid-play/zoomies!

Hi everyone. My partner and I adopted a kitten, Zelda, a month ago and she’s now a little over 3 months old. We adopted our first cat, Lulu, a year ago and she’s 2 years old. They get along super well.

Zelda uses the litter box really well and has no troubles peeing in the box… until mid-play. It’s not frequent - it’s happened 3-4 times - where she’ll be playing crazy with Lulu or by herself, and she’ll just empty her bladder wherever she is and continues on playing. Like yesterday, she was playing with her toy mouse in her cube and she just pees and scratches like she’s trying to cover it up. For context, we have three litter boxes, 2 with lids and 1 without (I haven’t noticed any preferences).

We took her to the vet and they did a urinalysis, as well as emptying the anal sacs (the vet said it could be impacted, which might lead to peeing outside the box). The vet said everything seemed normal. She eats well, drinks water well, plays well (more than well I would say), poops well and pees 98% well.

I’ve seen a lot of posts about cats peeing outside the box but I’m still not sure what could be wrong. Could it just be a kitten thing where she’s too focused on play?

Thanks!
