My emotional support animal (ESA) cat lives in my dorm with me at college. I spend a lot of time in my room with her, but she meows a lot (loudly) whenever I leave my room. People tell me they hear her meowing at intervals throughout the day and I’ve heard her meowing from outside my building before. I suspect that when I rescued her she had a history of some abuse in her previous homes. I don’t want to increase her stress or trauma.
I’d REALLY like to ease her anxiety and avoid annoying my neighbors.
I’ve already tried Sentry calming collars, ThunderEase calming diffusers, and small doses of vet prescribed gabapentin. She also has plenty of toys and entertainment + a bed in the window to look out. None of these seem to have any lasting or meaningful effect.
TLDR: Can anyone provide tips on calming/quieting an anxious ESA cat (specifically in a college dorm environment)?
