I am a HUGE animal lover and always grew up with at least 3 dogs and 2 cats at any given time.
I recently got married and moved into my very own townhouse with my new husband. I know living in a townhouse will be a lot of work with a dog (frequent walks and taking the dog out to use the bathroom). We moved out of my family home where there were 3 dogs and 4 cats. We brought our cat Alaska with us and she is doing amazing. She seems happy now that she is away from the other cats and loves being around us.
I knew I wanted a dog and I recently looked into adopting. Today I went to a shelter and met 2 dogs (both about 8 months of age and very shy dogs). The shelter said they cat tested the dogs and both seemed afraid of the cats so they think they will be fine with our cat. We would only be adopting one of the dogs. I left excited about the prospect of bringing my own dog home to love.
Now that I am home and spending time with my cat, I feel extreme guilt about bringing a new animal into her home where she seems happy. She got along fine with the dogs at my parents' home that she lived with. I hope I can get the 8 month old puppy to get along with her.
Are these feelings normal?
