Help! AITA for refusing to get a pet?

So my family and l really like animals. For several years now my kids and wife have been pleading to adapt a cat or a dog. I really like the idea too, except I do not think our routine and schedule is really good for pets.

We are in US. We travel to our home country for a month every other year. The years when we don't travel overseas, we take vacations within US. I do not like the idea of keeping a pet at vet hotel for a month. We do not have family or friends who are comfortable with pets, and even if they were , watching pets for a month is a bit much IMO.

We have busy schedules. All of us get out of house by 8 and have evening packed with kids activities. I don't think a pet, especially a dog will get much exercise or attention that it deserves. On top of this we live in a cold snowy place. For 7 months out of a year, I would hate taking dogs out on walks in snow.

My wife says, everyone does this and still have dogs. I think that it may be the case, but it's not fair for a pet to be alone for most of the day, not get at least an hour of full attention in a day and then be in a hotel for a month every year. If I get a dog or a pet, it's a commitment for 15 years . So am I thinking too much or AITI in this case?
