My mother was really interested in getting kittens recently and on a whim went out and got 2 kittens that are roughly 12 weeks old. However, my parents already have 2 dogs and very limited experience with cats. My younger brothers have been doing a great job taking care of the cats, but now I feel like it's time for them be able to walk around the house with the dogs. I understand this is not a simple process and will take a lot of time. The dogs have met the cats through a cage. The dogs were more or less curious, and the cats hissed. What are the proper steps to help them get used to coexisting in the same house? And please refrain from comments regarding the decision-making from my mother. I understand it's unorthodox, but I really just need some support.
