I'm new to owning cats and, today, I've just brought home a pair of adorably timidly shy kittens. They're siblings. I was told they're around 3 months old and in the process of being weaned by their mom. I've set up a small bathroom with everything I've heard cats and kittens would need: (makeshift) scratching post, litter box, dry and wet food, water, toys, carpets/scratching boards, and 1 hiding spot behind a box underneath the the sink.
It took a while before they left the carrier and immediately after went to the hiding spot and have stayed there since they got (to what I hope they'd come to call) home. It's been around 6 hours now and they're still hiding there. They still haven't touched their food even if I bring it close to them or leave it in front of their hiding spot. I've been checking up on them around every hour or so and took them out of the hiding spot (twice because I messed up, oof) to show them the litter box and where to find food and water. I sat each on my lap after the tour and gave them a little pet with slow blinking and talking in a voice as gentle as my manly voice can be to hopefully reassure them that everything is fine. They didn't hiss, growl or clawed and were very passive throughout the entire process, most likely because they're terrified, and just went back to its hiding spot after I let go of them.
It's relatively normal kitten/cat behavior but I can't help but to worry. Should I be concerned? I've been trying to convince my parents for months to adopt a cat and now that we've finally got them and they seem to still be terrified I'm just worried I've made a mistake.
EDIT: I also left Claire de Lune on repeat because apparently a relaxing music helps cats to relax but I'm worried that the kittens won't see it that way.
