Should I take my previously stray cat on walks?

Some backstory: Last September a cat literally walked into my apartment and decided it was her home. She has been my best friend ever since, but after taking her to her vet appointments and getting her vaccines etc. I was informed she was definitely just a regular stray from my neighborhood who happened to be very friendly. I thought she might be someone's pet because of her friendliness but alas nobody claimed her ads I put up online or around the neighborhood. Anyways, she's definitely my pet now but I sort of feel like I'm stifling her by keeping her in the apartment all the time.

What I've noticed is that she does occasionally try to get out of the apartment to play with animals and other cats outside, no matter how much stimulation I give her with toys. For the most part I've been able to keep her in the apartment (she did get out once), but now I'm starting to wonder if I should just get a harness and take her out on walks. I don't want to just let her run out the door by herself, I'm sure she would fine since she did live 2 years out there alone, but there's tons of risks to that even with her being spayed and vaccinated.

So, does anyone have any advice/experience with taking cats on walks?
