Three Year Old Adopted Cat (Biting, meowing/crying, etc.)

Hey everyone, I (19F) recently adopted an adult cat that is three years old. For the most part, he is super sweet. He likes to be by me and follows me around, enjoys being held, and purrs a lot; he is sleeping next to me as I’m typing this. I live in a smaller apartment with no other pets but I provided him with tons of toys, such as a cat tunnel, laser, balls, a scratching post, etc. Anyway, when he first got here he was an angel. Now, he meows/cries loudly by the door and around the apartment and bites me (hands, legs, feet, etc.) unprovoked. I adopted him as a companion animal per my physician for my anxiety but he sometimes makes my anxiety and frustration worse, at least when he acts like this. When I adopted him I was informed he was surrendered to the humane society because he’s a biter, but I didn’t realize it was this bad. The only thing that I think could have triggered this strange behavior was traveling to my parents’ house but the timeline is murky as I’m not sure if he was acting like this before and now I’m attributing his actions to something unrelated. Also, he traveled very well and seemed happy there. I absolutely want to keep him but I’m getting frustrated and feel hurt almost. Thank you in advance for the advice!😸♥️
