About a month and a half ago I decided to adopt a kitten, I’ve been wanting a second cat for almost over a year now. I thought my resident adult cat Frank could use a companion. A few weeks ago I started trying to introduce Frank to the new kitten by having them in the same room and seeing one another but he seemed VERY pissed off but the kitten wasn’t phased by his aggression at all, if I wasn’t holding him back he would’ve walked right up to Frank. I’ve read that it’s normal for a resident cat to hiss, yowl and growl when introducing a new kitten into the household but after a couple days of trying to do these introductions in the morning and night during feeding times I since stopped all together because it was starting to make me very anxious. Even after these interactions are over and I move the kitten to another room and he is out of Frank’s sight, he continues to expresses all those behaviors for a couple minutes. I’ve never owned two cats together before so I’m not sure how much aggression is normal for these introductions. I cry about it almost every night because I don’t want to have made a mistake and have to give back the new kitten. I know it sounds like I’m jumping the gun here but I would love to hear some similar experiences from you guys who were in the same position and what helped you with introductions to ease some of my anxiety and help me be more confident during these interactions. TIA 🥺
