My parents bought me a beagle puppy when I was in the 2nd grade. I named her Tippy. She was a great dog, we played every day. She would wait for me at the corner of the fence for me to come home after school. In high school I was in marching band and I had a job I worked on the weekends. There were days where I only saw her long enough to feed her and change her water. She was an outside dog, my parents didn't want a dog in the house. I talked to them about maybe finding a family with younger kids that would have more time for her. They found somebody with 2 kids that were looking for a dog.
I never met the family, my mom dropped Tippy off herself. I never checked up on her and I can't figure out why not. Now 30 years later I wonder how she did, was she happy? Dad doesn't remember who this family was and mom passed away. I just wanted her to be happy.
