I recently brought our five month old kitty to the vet for a general check up and some follow-up shots, and was shocked to find out that he had an active infection after the lab results came back. The vet prescribed him amoxicillin-clavulanic acid to take twice a day, for 14 days, and some Tobramycin for his eyes. He was fine for the first two days, but then suddenly today, he started throwing up—once in the morning, after his breakfast, and then again a couple of hours after his antibiotic dose at lunch. He's been sleeping the whole day, but still has a great appetite, and still plays with the other cats when they come over to bother him in bed.
I've read that it was normal for cats and dogs to have gastrointestinal upset with antibiotics, but has anyone else experienced this with their own cats, or maybe even dogs, who've been on antibiotics? How did you guys manage the throwing up, and did it go away on its own while you finished the course of treatment, or did you do something to help out like ask the vet to switch out meds or food? Any tips, advice, and help appreciated!
