So I have one cat that I rescued at 8 weeks old. And another cat I rescued at about a year old. I got them a year apart so they’re about the same age. We did the whole separate for 2 weeks thing when we got the new cat. They’re both female. The first cat used to play with her brother from the same litter with no issues, but they no longer live together.
Now when they play and wrestle with each other we hear the guttural noises a cat would make when in a fight. It’s weird though because we’ll go over to look and the two cats will be just laying next to each other kind of like they’re taking a quick break before they go back into it. We’re pretty sure it’s mainly the new cat that’s making the noises, but I guess it’s hard to tell.
Both cats chase after each other and initiate play, and both cats will keep the play going after the noises.
So my question. Is this normal for a rescue cat to make these noises when playing? Could she have picked it up on the street and it’s natural for her? Or do my cats hate each other?
And does anyone have any tips on how to stop this kind of behavior, if it is a problem? Thanks!!
Edit: I feel like I should add that these cats will also totally sleep on the couch together and in general lay relaxed around each other without any physical contact
