Cheapest places to find cat food while on the train?

I have the next 4 days on the train (Amtrak -USA) and I have and have $3.61.

I may have more funds later, but for now - that’s all I have. I don’t care if I starve, but I have a responsibility.

I’ll be stopping at stations for transfers and there are gas stations and similar. I’ll have a few stops where I’ll be near an ace hardware and even one stop where I’ll be overnight and have more time to get to places farther away from the train.

My sister might be able to send enough to cover us, but she sent everything to get my ticket.

Any tips or pointers would be amazing. I feel like the worst mother ever.

What do I do? How can I feed him while on this trip? I thought I’d be ok, but nothing has gone to plan.
