Getting a second cat: before, during or after a move?

My husband, myself, our toddler and our 3yo neutered male cat are moving at the end of the month from an apartment to a house. The cat we have is mine from before we married and it far prefers me. Husband would like us to get a second cat or kitten that can be “his”.

The animal control in our county is having a special adoption event the day before we move to try and clear out the over abundance of kittens they have.

We’re thinking about attending the event and bringing both cats to the new house at the same time, with the thinking being that this would make the house neutral territory that they can both get used to together.

Is this sound logic? Does anyone have any resources they can point us to that would clarify when the best time to introduce a new cat or kitten is?

If it helps, current cat has been around other cats before and doesn’t seem to be too bothered by them but that was before I adopted him.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you all have for us!
