My cat is a domestic shorthair, male, neutered, almost 2 years old (he was a stray so we don't know exactly how old he is), his former "owner" wasn't good about keeping a shot record so we don't know if he's already received deworming treatment (he has received a rabies shot), approx. 13 lbs.
He recently was neutered and I have reason to believe that he got them from the vet. We keep him indoors for safety reasons and we don't go out often (I know it's still a possibility that we could've tracked them in from the outside). We are mostly sure he doesn't have fleas anymore but I just found out that he has tapeworms. I am terrified of parasites.
We also have a maltese, male, 15 years old, approx. 7 lbs, also neutered and fully vaccinated, who was also infected by fleas (most likely has tapeworms as well). We've given them baths with flea shampoo, brushed through their fur multiple times, given them flea treatment, washed all bedding/clothing, vacuumed, and used flea spray for our house.
Unfortunately, the vet we go to is closed on Sundays and the earliest appointment we can get is Tuesday.
Is there anything I can do in the meantime to help them? Are they uncomfortable? Is there any over-the-counter medication that I can/should buy? If so, what are the best cost-effective ones? Should I go to a different vet or an ER vet? I keep finding tapeworms and tapeworm eggs in my bed where my cat sleeps and I don't know what to do with them so I'm just boiling them; what do I do with them? I'm also worried about the price since vet visits in my area aren't cheap.
Temporarily quarantined my cat in the bathroom and my dog in the other bathroom until I figure out what to do. I feel like I'll never be clean again; I know I'm most likely panicking over nothing but the stress is getting to me. I'm physically exhausted from bathing, washing, vacuuming, and worrying for 2 days straight.
Any advice is appreciated!
