It's been going on for a while now. Initially, I didn't mind it and we thought it was kind of funny. But lately I've been feeling really disheartened especially since I'm going through a tough time and I can't even pet my own damn cat!!
He won't let me pet him more than a second and will try to bite or grab my hand to set it down (he'll give it a lick afterward though as a "no offense, we're still cool") but the moment he sees my roommate he'll run over and lay down like an obedient puppy and wait for pets. And the worst part is my roommate isn't even that fond of cats!
Is this some sort of dominance thing? I've heard cats only let their superiors groom them. Is that why he'll try to bat my hand away as if he's my superior and I shouldn't be doing that? My roommate on the other hand often used to shoo him away or grab him and pick him up to take him outside the room constantly. Maybe he's seen that (and my roommate's cold indifference) as some sort of "alpha cat" behavior? And he considers me his subordinate because I'm always too gentle with him?
I dunno, he does seem to grab my hand and keep licking it whenever he's sleepy or bored, which I just thought was a sweet gesture but now I'm thinking it could be a sign of asserting dominance?
But I'M the one who looks after him, I'm the one who feeds him and cleans up after him. I'm the one who got him in the first place. I should be the momma cat of the house! lol
What do I gotta do to get some respect around here? It's really breaking my heart :(
