I found out today that I have an a-hole neighbor. I’m pretty much a recluse so I don’t know any of them.
Today I got a visit from animal control that neighbors called because they were concerned for our animals. ( 2 dogs & 2 cats) They reported that our dog was outside in the rain with no shelter, our cats looked abused because they are half shaved. They worry about our cats wearing collars and one looks too tight. The officer wanted to check on the animals and so I let him.
Only one dog got up to greet him because our animals are not stressed out. (They don’t even bark when someone comes to the door, but they will bark to protect us from squirrels) he was surprised by how quiet and calm they are. He scanned them and saw they were all chipped. They are all fixed and vaccinated. They had bowls full of food and fresh water.
They checked the cats collars and mentioned that they can be dangerous if a cat gets hung up. I showed him that they are designed to break away if that happens, but are necessary. They have brought us 2 live snakes, 3 dead baby moles, and two live birds within a week. The collars have bells to handicap their hunting skills. (and keep their trophies out of my house) he saw that they weren’t tight but the cats are fluffy so it looked tight. He asked about the shaving. One cat had surgery a month ago and has healed, but the fur is still growing back. My male cat has long fur and refuses to groom himself. We have to shave his bottom half. He gets really matted and can’t be brushed out. We only shave as much as he will let us at a time so he doesn’t get stressed. It was the vet that taught us how painful the mats are and how to shave them off without hurting him.
It was raining when he was here and he watched my dog immediately run outside to play. There isn’t shelter outside because they have free access to the house. None of the animals are ever locked out. We have a magnetic curtain on the sliding door for them to come and go. (They don’t make dog doors big enough so it was our only option to keep bugs out) The door is closed at night when the animals are inside and we go to bed. Our pets are family and live very comfortable and healthy lives.
I showed him their vet records and he apologized for the inconvenience and was on his way.
Karma was served though. I think he went to talk to the person that filled the report and saw something he didn’t like. His truck was at the neighbors house for a bit when another one pulled up with a police car. The neighbor was yelling. I saw them put a dog in the truck but there must have been more because they were there a while and needed more than one truck and police. I watched out my window for a bit but got bored when I couldn’t see what was happening.
