So about two weeks ago, I had adopted a pair of 3 months old kittens who were brothers. Yesterday, one of them escaped somehow while I was not at home. I have looked every possible where but with no luck. Now, the one that stayed back, has been looking for his brother everywhere. He's meowing at the door. It's quite painful to watch him like this. Today is apparently the first time he has ever been alone.
Obviously, I do want the other kitten to come back to me, but let's be practical. He can't. He is too young to find his way back home. The other one, Dennis, is my top priority now.
I have started giving as much time and attention as possible to him so that at least when he is with me, he shouldn't feel alone.
I have three options now. 1. Raise him single. 2. Get another kitten of similar age. 3. Get a puppy (I have always been around dogs, this is my first time with cats. Guess that's why I screwed up big time.)
My schedule is more or less like so -
I wake up at 6. After freshening up, I go for a run 3-4 days a week. By 7-7.30 I am back, I give them food, clean up their litter. I am available for them till 9.30. There is a helper who comes at 7.30 and stays till 10.30-11, he leaves after giving them their meal. Then I come back around 5.30-6, Play with them for some time. By 7 I leave for my gym 4 days a week. I come back around 9-9.30, give them their food after playing for 10-15 mins. Changing and dinner takes about half an hour. From 10 till I sleep, I am with them (rather they are with me). Before sleeping I put them in the other room where their base camp is, and I close my door. On Sundays, I am just occupied from 4-9 am, then the entire day is for them. If I ever have to leave the town for work, I will make sure that they are well fed and attended to by my helper.
Of the three options, which one makes more sense?
