Tenofovir for FIV cat? Delivery methods?

My vet wants me to give tenofovir to my chronically sick FIV cat (he has had runny eyes and nose for over a year, none of the normal treatments have helped).

So the vet advised me to dissolve 1 tenofovir tablet in 5ml of water then give him 1ml a day via syringe side of the mouth. I try to avoid his tongue as much as possible, but of course a dissolved tablet tastes horrible so he starts gagging and sometimes foaming at the mouth. My cat hates me for this.

Does anyone have any other methods for delivering this kind of medicine to a cat? If I mix the liquid with his food he just won't eat his food and then he distrusts everything I put in front of him. I was thinking perhaps to mix the medicine with fish oil? Is that a taste cats would enjoy? Might it overpower a horrible dissolved tablet taste? Please any ideas are welcome. I just want my poor FIV cats to get over this persistent cold and to not hate me in the process. 😭

I'd also love to hear about any experiences had with tenofovir, has it helped?
