Hi! first of all I wanted to say that english is not my first lenguage, i'm also not very familiar with english vocabulary related to animals, so if I make any mistakes I apologize in advance.
So I (18F) have a dog who's around 10 years old, we're not sure of what his breed is since we adopted him, but he's similar to a black labrador. He's never been the really loyal type, only towards my father, but he's overall always been a sweet and kind dog. Around a year ago my dog started growling at me for no reason, completely out of the blue. It's extremely weird because he doesn't show his teeth either, he kinda just growls and hides his tail between his legs. He has never been abused or misstreated, he's a really spoiled dog who has a big backyard to run around. At first I thought he was getting old and grumpy, but I eventually realized this behaviour was only directed towards me and sometimes my mother, we have 2 cats and he's really gentle and friendly with them. So here's the thing, as I said before my dog is very attached to my father, so I thought that he could be seeing me as a threat of some sort to his position and to mi father's attention. I don't live in a house in which the father makes all the decitions so you couldn't say he's the "head of the household", however my dad has a very big and strong personality so it makes sense my dog would be dranw to him as an authority figure, I'm the eldest of 3 children and I take after him a lot. A lot of people have told me I have his mannerisms and expressions, I tought my dog could be picking up on this somehow(? I don't really know much about dog behaviour but it seems weird to me that my dog would feel threatened by a small 18 y/o girl, while my 14 y/o sister is much taller and stronger than me, also much louder and extroverted. Idk if I'm making any sense but I'm really confused rn. If anyone has any theories I would apreciate them a lot.
