Inquiring about getting a cat.

Hey everyone. So I am thinking about whether or not to get a cat, I live in a 5 bedroom apartment with my friends at university and want a feline friend. I have 2 cats with my family at home and had a cat before that. I know that they require a decent amount of work but I also know that they are fairly independent animals. My dilemma is I'm not sure how it would work if my roommates throw parties and I attend... would I let my cat explore and meet people and see how they deal with it and react accordingly or close my bedroom door so they are safe. The second option seems more inhumane to me but another factor is that I would be adopting the said cat.

" Co-pilots thrive on being an involved family members, and will likely want to spend a good chunk of their time with you playing, chatting, training, and snoozing. They can handle alone time if you give them enough to do, and their favorite independent activities usually include exploring tunnels, perching by the window, playing with novel toys, and cozying up for a nap. But be ready, because these social kitties will be waiting for you! If you’re having guests over, you might find your Co-pilot at your side acting as your official greeter. And if you’re working around the house a Co-pilot might just want to help – keep an eye on your keyboard! Co-pilots may also be good candidates for harness training and leash walks outdoors. After living with a Co-pilot, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without one. "

This is the description under the cat, which makes me think that it will be social and will be just fine living with me.

I'd just like any input if anyone has been in my situation and decided to get a cat. I know the work they require but I know that it is not that much work; clean litterbox regularly, feed them, give them water, and obviously play with them and give them attention. I guess people talking to me are just putting doubts in my head about it...

Thanks in advance anyone who gives me advice or just tells me to go for it!
