My cat isn’t warming up to my parents, any tips/ideas?

I’m staying with my parents for a few months and my cat (British shorthair) is still not that keen on them (1 month in). Some details:

  • Normally it’s just me in my apartment so she’s not used to others
  • We’re in a house right now
  • She’s used to the basement which is where I am most of the time. This is where her food and litter is, I have put food and water upstairs too (she snacks from this sometimes)
  • She likes being upstairs if I’m there (she will eventually want to go to the door though). If I go downstairs and close the door behind me she will eventually scratch the door and meow loudly. She will mad dash to the door if she hears it opening too
  • If I leave the door open and stay upstairs, she will just lounge near the door. She does this when I am downstairs too, just watching my parents from the doorway. She eventually comes downstairs and stays near me (I believe this is one of the breed traits though)
  • She runs from parents if they are consciously going towards her. She may approach them if they are distracted
  • She goes upstairs on her own to explore in the morning. She even gets on well with my dad at this time (???) It’s just later in the day she acts so scared.
  • She doesn’t play upstairs like she plays downstairs

I’ve tried having them give her food and treats, but that doesn’t seem to work. She is not a treats kind of cat. I’ve tried leaving her toys upstairs but she just watches them warily, and does not play. I have a feliway going on upstairs too.

I’m thinking I made her too dependent on me especially when staying at home all the time during pandemic. This is surprising she hasn’t shown odd behaviour when I’ve left the house for long hours (4+) before. Any thoughts on how to fix this if this is the case?
