I recently got a nice climber/house for my otherwise extremely friendly and cuddly 8y/o female cat. She’s had another one before, but we got it used and it was getting nasty. Around this new one, she hisses and mrowls, which is completely uncharacteristic of her. I can’t convince her to stay on or around it for any length of time. If I put her favourite food next to it, she won’t even touch it. She’s never reacted this badly to anything before, and has been perfectly fine when we get news beds, couches, or other things she normally lays on.
I can’t take it back, and I don’t want to throw it out or even sell it because it was expensive and I’m a poor student. Is there any reason why she might be reacting this way? Again, she’s typically not afraid of these things. I’m wondering if there’s a smell or something that could be putting her off. I would appreciate any advice from people with experience in the matter.
