My sister had a 5-year-old dog named Mira who passed away in a pool cover accident in the Summer of 2020. My sister found Mira and I rushed her to the emergency vet. The death was shattering, to say the least.
I thought I had gotten past it but recently, my bf's brother and his GF brought home a dog with a similar temperament to Mira and I feel like I'm having dog fever. I miss Mira so much, but I don't know if this is just residual grief. My sister and I were roommates for a decade so I was with her and her ex since they brought her home.
My boyfriend and I have talked about possibly getting a dog of our own in the next year, and I've always said before Mira's passing that I wanted one of the same breed. I just don't know when is the 'right time for me to bring one home for myself.
I also would say I'm not a huge animal lover so it's not like I am easily triggered when I see people's pets which is why this dog fever feeling is perplexing. I like animals, but I love my pets.
