6 months old cat ate parts of a sock

I went to the vet today for follow-up bloodwork since his WBC count was high last month.

After the vet visit he found a sock. Normally he plays with my socks and bunny kicks them so I didn't really pay much attention. But then after some time I heard proper chewing noises and noticed that the sock was missing some chunks. Is this an emergency? I sent an email to my vet and will most likely go in to the walk in clinic tomorrow depending on what they say. He is eating normally and I gave him some hairball control gel for now. It is night here so I was wondering if I need to immediately go to the ER.

Also hopefully it is not Pica. The last time he ate a weird thing, that I noticed at least was also after a vet visit to get his shots. He vomited pieces of plastic and the ER gave him enema for constipation at that time.
