Look, don't get me wrong. I absolutely love animals, of all kinds and sizes, and I would hurt myself for them.
But I also acknowledge that they are pets. They aren't as hygienic as we are, as they run wherever they please, they roll in everything and bring poop, pee and dirt on their paws. (They also shed, but that can be solved with a vacuum)
So in my head it is natural that I feel uncomfortable with the fact that I'm laying my head in all that.
My wife can't stand the fact that I don't feel comfortable with them jumping and sleeping around the sofa, where I clearly see the cat and dog's paws marked with pee and what else on the pillows, bed and sofa, and the smell sometimes can be a strong one.
