A stray cat and her kittens have been seeking shelter in my home for a couple of days now, but we've barely interacted. I've never had pets, and really want to adopt her and her babies, only for any chance of contracting of rabies to give me second thoughts.
How do I know if the cat is rabid, and what are the odds of anyone in my family contracting it? If it isn't, should I get it and it's babies vaccinated before taking them in?
Rabies is relatively rare in India, but it still causes a couple ten thousands of deaths ever year.
