About 3 weeks ago I adopted a second cat. He is a 3 year used tabby and possibly the most confident cat I have ever met. Our other cat who we have had for 3 years is a 5 year old tabby bengal who is confident, but nowhere near the confidence level of the new cat. I used Jackson Galaxy's method for introducing them, and everything was going really well. We are currently having them share a living space, and they are sharing furniture, sleeping near each other, sharing litterboxes, and eating close to each other without any problems. The only thing that IS creating problems, is play time! The newer cat is so confident/dominant that no matter what toy they are playing with, as soon as the other cat engages with a toy, that becomes the new toy that they need to have. The newer cat is also SO high energy that he needs at least three 45 minute play sessions every day or else he starts to instigate fights with my other cat. At this point, my resident cat has lost a lot of interest in play and is clearly starting to take this frustration out on the new cat too. He is not attacking him, but he will nip at his back legs and pester him to no end. I have tried to play with them in separate rooms, but the new cat just sits at the door and meows to come into the room where I am with the other cat, yet again making him too nervous to play. Prior to adopting the second cat, my resident cat would get multiple play sessions per day. He is currently getting barely one. I am starting to feel like I am failing my resident cat and do not want to see him become depressed or more stressed out. How can I mellow out my super confident kitty and help restore some normalcy to my resident cats life?
