I think I may have broken my hamster’s nose, any advice?

I was letting my boy Atlas freely run around on the floor of my apartment, but making sure to keep an eye on him so he wouldn’t get himself into trouble. I took my eye off of him for literally two seconds, but that was enough time for him to sneak under my foot, where I unfortunately stepped on him.

I heard a small crunch as I did this, and he immediately recoiled in pain and started bleeding from his nose. He didn’t bleed very heavily, though, and the bleeding stopped after just a few minutes. I know I didn’t step on his body, because I could tell it wasn’t that large of an object, and I can’t imagine I stepped on his head either because then I assume he would have just died. I think I must have stepped just on the tip of his nose.

This happened about an hour ago, and I’ve been keeping an eye on him since. Aside from the fact that his breathing now has a slightly snuffly sound to it, he seems to be doing fine; he’s moving around steadily, is running on his wheel, and took food from me when I offered it to him.

It’s midnight now, so it’s unfortunately too late to take him to a vet at this point. I just want your opinions on how concerned I should be for him at this point and if it’s likely that he’ll recover if I just let him be. I feel like shit, I just wanted to let him run around and have some fun, I can’t believe I ended up hurting him.

Thanks in advance.
