Hey guys , I’m in a bit of a dilemma . Im a new cat owner so I’m learning and researching .
I’m in a semi LDR with someone who I was supposed to be going to visit and spending the night with this weekend , but they just found out their indoor cats have fleas . (They have strays that they don’t let in the house but feed on the porch . The fleas probably came inside that way) . They just got one cat on flea meds , scheduled appointments for the other two for the same medication , and they’ve been diligent about bathing and brushing their cats , vacuuming their home daily, and washing and drying all their linens and clothing on high heat .
My partner came by for a very brief visit the other week ( only about 2 hours), and I haven’t seen any fleas in my car or home since . But I haven’t spent extended time with my partner in close to two months because of the distance and our work schedules. I want to go to their house for the weekend because I know getting another opportunity where our schedules align to do that is rare , but I’m scared that if I go, I might give my two cats fleas as well :/ I was also in close contact with my partners stray porch cats often months ago before we started doing distance , and I wasn’t seeing any fleas in my car or in my home afterwards . This was back in August, but my partners cats weren’t showing signs of fleas back then .
Are there any ways to prevent taking fleas into my home and protect my cats if I do go? Or should I just skip out on the trip altogether? I don’t know much about fleas because I’m a new cat owner and my cats are both indoor . I know that high heat kills fleas , and we both have a washer/dryer in our homes . If I go, should I seal my belongings/clothing in a bag, then immediately wash and dry on high heat when I get home or before I leave? One of my partners cats is currently on flea meds, will the fleas on that cat die off? Should I put my cats on a flea med as prevention (Frontline) even if I decide not to go?
It doesn’t sound like it’s a full house infestation on their end , as in they’re not seeing them jumping around on furniture or clothes , but they’re definitely jumping around on the indoor kitties :/
