Hello everybody!
My wife and I recently adopted a dog from a shelter and noticed some weird food preferences. Neither of us had a dog, so we are total newbies when it comes to caring for a dog.
We were told that this dog was found on a street, and one of his paws is broken, so he's limping even now. Besides, he is more than 7 y.o. So, he is a kinda senior. No one knows if he ever had an owner before and what exactly happened to him. But when we saw his eyes, we fell in love with him. We've prepared everything for him, and the next day we returned to that shelter and took our new family member to his new home. Even though we've been looking for a puppy, and hoped that we could find a black Labrador there. But we couldn't say no to those eyes and decided to give him a chance for a house where he would get lots of love.
So, we took him home, and on our way, we bought a lot of different dog food, toys, and treats. The vet assured us that the dog was healthy, except for his paw. The bone didn't heal correctly. You can notice that he has some problems. Still, our new buddy is totally welcome in our place, and he has already made some friends with our neighbors. Everyone loves him, especially neighbors' kids, even though we don't have kids on our own yet.
We didn't see any naughty behavior from him, except for one thing. He has stolen a lot of dragon fruits and ate all of them while we were out. My wife placed them as table decor, and no one expected that a dog would eat fruit, especially an exotic one. We took him immediately to the vet, but he said that everything was okay - dogs are allowed to eat dragon fruits. After that case, we've noticed that he always begs us for dragon fruits when we eat them. I did some research, and here https://dogeatguide.com, it says that dogs can eat dragon fruits and not only. I wonder if we should give him more fruits to try and if it's good for him. Do you give your dogs any fruits? If you do, how do they react? Have you noticed any health benefits or problems?
