Questions about my new kitten

He is a 9 week old ragdoll

I have a few questions/concerns about a kitten we have got last week.

We started him on wet and dry food and kitten milk and he immediately got diarrhea so we have switched him to dry food and water, some poops have firmed up and some are still runny, I'm not sure what else to do?

With him having the mentioned issue we cannot trust him to be about the house when we sleep which means we put him in a pen with his litter tray and water in another room, is this okay? He meows for 5/10 mins then is quite.

He knows where his litter trays and food bowls are but keeps trying to poop near the back door, is there a way we can stop him doing this?

When he poops he almost always gets it on his tail and legs, is there something I can do to help him poop properly, I know it's runny now but he should still be able to not put his tail in it. His litter tray is big enough.

He is also not eating all the dry food we put out for him and seems to be crunching hard on some bits. Should I wet his dry food to make it easier to eat? The kitten food we give him is designed for his age range although he is at the start of that range.

I grew up with cats and have never had these problems before.

Thanks.
