There are two black cats hanging out near my dorm but they're really afraid of people and absolutely refuse to go near them.
Today was different though.
I left the dorm to smoke and almost got a heart attack because a cat that was identical to my cat was standing on the door step. It wasn't him though, he's 200km away with my family.
I'll admit, I started treating him like he's my cat, Theodore, and leaned to give him a pet but he ran away. But then he did something surprising.
He started looking at me and meowing. I asked him "why are you yelling?" and came closer. And again, he got further, looked back at me and meowed. Like he wanted to lead me somewhere.
I thought "maybe it's a mother cat trying to show her babies to a human?" and followed him for a bit until he disappeared.
After I couldn't find him I just started minding my own business until he appeared again and kept yelling.
So I tried to follow him again but he just hid under a car so I left him alone. Now he wanders somewhere nearby but isn't meowing anymore.
I don't know what his problem is. I don't think he'd want to show off his babies to a stranger if he was actually a "she" with kittens. He's also clearly well fed and can hunt so I don't think he'd be desperate enough to ask random people for food..
He also wasn't aggressive or too frightened by my presence. He just didn't want to be pet which I respected after I got turned down the first time I tried.
