So we moved to a new apartment, and got a new cloth chair that I love, but my cat has decided that its his new scratching post. He had a scratching post, but we thought maybe it was getting old and he didn't like it anymore, so we bought him a really nice cat tree/scratching post combo. He'll lay in it if we're in the living room, but won't use the scratching post part and still keeps trying to scratch up the chair.
Does anyone have an advice on correcting this behavior beyond squirting him with a water bottle? We've also tried a scratch deterrent spray from Nature's Miracle. He's normally a good cat and doesn't really need much discipline, so I'm a tad at a loss. He's also become an indoor cat recently as the area we moved to isn't safe for indoor-outdoor cats and he was getting a little older so I figured it was better for his health. If anyone's got any advice on how to stop him from ruining the chair, or some product recommendations to a least keep him away from the chair or protect it, please let me know!
