My boyfriend and I were looking to adopt another cat for my high-energy cat about one and a half months ago. This is where we met Trunks (the cat whom I don't have a bond with). I asked the volunteer what he was like and if he liked wrestling with other cats since our resident cat does. She said he never saw him wrestle with the other cats, but did get along with them. When I observed him outside of his cage with the other high-energy cats in the shelter running about, he was slinking around (which I mentioned this behaviour to my boyfriend). Regardless, he liked him because he rubbed up on both of us and he could pick up and cuddle him which most cats don't like. Despite me being unsure of Trunks being the right fit for our other cat, we adopted him because my bf liked him very much.
I am the sole caretaker of both cats. I feed, play, and give attention to them 100% of the time. My bf will only pick up and cuddle Trunks when he gets home from work (he doesn't do that to our resident cat since he doesn't like it). There is nothing wrong with Trunks, really. He isn't aggressive, he doesn't mind my other cat (though he doesn't like to play with him), he doesn't pee or poop outside the box or anything. I just don't have a bond with him, and frankly, I just don't really like him. He has the personality of a hungry potato. He only really cares about anything if I have food, and when it's feeding time, he meows incessantly. Even though he is sweet in his own right, I wasn't looking to coddle and coo at a cat, I really wanted a play mate for my other cat since he's obviously bored without a feline to play with, despite how much I play with him every day (at least an hour). I've been feeding, playing, and forcing myself to pet him ever since we adopted him, and I don't think my feelings will change. I feel no love for this cat, but my bf does.
I really don't know what help I'm asking for, but perhaps someone may have some insight/help/advice?
