Question about caring for a dove.

A ring-necked dove recently came into my families possession. It flew into our garage and is very obviously tame. It loves being picked up and being close to people and had no desire to fly away. We put a few posts up on Facebook as well as notices at the local shop and takeaway, and so far nobody has claimed it as their pet.

We just so happened to have the right sized cage as we used to own a parakeet, so we have a place to keep it, but I'm a bit concerned. Looking around online I've seen that it's recommended to keep doves in pairs, and I don't really have the resources to care for two birds. I have really wanted to get another bird for quite a few months now, but I feel really bad about keeping this one if he's just going to be sad by himself.

Will the bird be alright by itself, or should I see if I can find it a new home? I'll care for the bird well if I keep it, but as I said I really don't want it to be sad by itself.
