Should I adopt a second cat?

I currently have a female 3 year old indoor/outdoor cat. I am considering adopting a kitten but am not sure if is the right decision for her. Please help!

My cat is what some might call neurotic but has recently gotten much better. She is a shy and very anxious cat. In the past she lived with a male elderly laid back cat and they got along great. She always wanted to play but he just wanted to sleep by the heater. She also lived with a very aggressive and outgoing male that she hated. She would spend the entire day hiding and would often have behavioral bathroom issues (namely peeing on my bed).

Now she has full reign over the house and can be outside as much as she wants...but I think she is bored. She doesnt enjoy playing with humans much but I know she is playful, so she seems very restless.

I want to get a kitten solely for her sake and for her to have a friend, not for my own needs. Is this a good idea or would it just add unwanted anxiety to her life? I just want to do what makes her happy.

My plan (if I got one) is to get one very young that has a very mellow temperament. What do you guys think?

TLDR: I have a cat that is shy and anxious but seems very bored. She has gotten along with 1 cat in the past that she lived with, but hated another that she lived with. I want to get a laid back young kitten. Good idea or bad?
