My uncle and aunt are both in their 70’s and currently living in an apartment complex for the elderly. Their kids are busy working professionals, and so I have kind of filled in as the emergency contact/helper with whatever they need. I went over there the other day and realized that they’re extremely bored and have almost nothing to do. My uncle is an amputee (left leg) so movement is a chore. My aunt doesn’t like leaving him alone so they just stay there. She’s picked up sewing so that’s something.
So I was looking to get them a pet. They don’t like cats or dogs, nor would it be a smart pet to get them as they wouldn’t be able to give them the care and attention they need. So I thought about birds. She loves birdwatching and has always thought parakeets are cute. Should I invest in getting a couple of parakeets for them. Would they be able to handle it? I would be able to help sometimes, but I work full time as well. What do you all think?
