Urinary or Intestinal - help!

So, my cat is normally as routine as my alarm. He's always waiting for me in the morning and I feed him, take my pills, and we go into the bathroom together so he can sit on the radiator while I shower. This morning, he was in the litter box and remained in the box until I got out of the shower. Which is odd. If he does hang out in there, it's usually to kick shit around and cause a fuss but he was just squatting. I made a vet appointment and took him in. Here are the details:

  1. I know he ate some bologna casing. He doesn't normally go up on the counter, but my boyfriend left bologna casing from a midnight snack and I found some in a little pile of vomit. It's not digestible and is made of cotton muslin.

  2. His dipstick and urine samples were clear. Except for one very small crystal.

  3. Because he had a full tummy, they wanted us to wait it out and come back for x rays in the morning.

He's not yowling, just straining. When he pees, it's just a little dribble and he hasn't pooped since at least 6 am. The vet says to just hang in there and wait for our appointment tomorrow unless it gets too concerning but I'm a worry-wart and this is the first time he's ever been sick.

Any advice or stories of similar situations would be helpful.

Thank you so much!!!!
