Been feeding an injured stray, need advice

To start with I apologize if this forum isn't the place for this but I wasn't sure where else to go.

I live in an old farm house and a couple months back I started seeing a stray black around the place. He took up residence under a crawl space in the front of the house (something many generations of farm cats have done since the house was built in the 30's). I put dry food out on my side porch for him every day and he eats it just fine, but I started thinking he was limping and today I confirmed it.

He is very timid; watches me like a hawk if I'm outside and If I make any movements in even vaguely his direction he will bolt under my house. As I said today I managed to see him out of my window and finally confirmed what I had been thinking; his front paw or leg is injured and he isn't walking on it at all. He'll run on all fours if spooked so I guess it isn't broken but somethings clearly wrong. He comes out if I'm inside and will chill in the sun or roam around and he's a chatty little guy, often meowing for no apparent reason (they don't sound distressed, honestly they sound about as calm as any of the random mews from the house cats I've had) so aside from the limp he doesn't seem to be in dire straights.

Still I'd like to get the little guy some help but I am unsure how to do so. He's seen me around for quite awhile and as I said still won't let me near. Closest I got was sitting on the ground 10ish feet away while he was under the crawl space looking out at me. He seemed calm enough, doing the slow eyeblink and not as hyper focused on me, but that changes if hes out in the open. I've tried to make sure he sees me when I put food out, hoping he'll associate me with said food. But I'd like to get a vet to look at him, just not sure how to do it.

I believe this guy is a genuine stray, he has no collar and his fur, while not unhealthy looking, is clearly that of a cat living entirely outdoors.
