I have a four year old terrier (possibly jack russell/cairn/scott mix) that I am debating on neutering. He is a sweet dog and a great listener, but he is very protective of me and reactive when others (such as my husband), touch me or get close to me. He also snaps if you accidentally bump or move him when he is comfortable or sleeping. My dog considers me the alpha (not my husband becaused I had the dog first) and is a sweet, well behaved dog but I am worried how he will act when I am giving most of our attention to our son. On the other hand, will neutering him really change his personality? Is the surgery risky for an older dog? Any advice is highly appreciated :)
