Greetings
Unfortunately, my housemate's dog passed away this morning due to some manner of tick-borne disease. We're all devastated since he was her son's dog and we all loved him, but I personally worry about having been bit by a tick while the dog was alive, or getting bit by one now that he's passed away. As far as I understand it, ticks aren't fliers or jumpers, they wouldn't get on me unless I were to physically come into contact with them. I usually walk through the dog's living space (the house's tiny paved backyard) and my room is right above it, am I at risk of catching one or getting them into my room? How could I know if one has bitten me already without me knowing?
Thankfully as far as I understand it the disease that killed the dog doesn't transmit to humans, but I'm worried about lyme disease or anything else. Any help would be appreciate it. I apologize for the grim topic, too.
