We adopted a 4 month old cat 36 hours ago. It's taken me 36 hours to go from "awe kitty" into a murderous rage.
The cat has scratched up our bed. Solution: buy five different scratching posts of various textures and keep the door to the bedroom shut.
Minor issues such as rolling around in the litterbox and then leaving; causing bits of litter to be spread throughout the house.
Destruction of property? Okay that's fine. Making a mess out of the house? Okay that's fine.
Here's the big problem: on the first night we discovered that a plant pot was... Disturbed. Broken leaves and displaced soil. Okay, I coated the leaves in citrus spray and plastered cayenne pepper over the leaves and soil. I awake to find that the plants are even further destroyed, to the point where one of the three plants is completely gone and the remaining two are very close to death. Apparently the cat has decided to use the (rather large) pot as a litter box.
This plant was given to me by my grandmother. Of the things which are conceivably possible to destroy, this cat has managed to zero in on the one thing in which I hold the most emotional attachment.
The plant has been moved to the bedroom, but it's low-light in there so this is a temporary fix at best.
I needed to vent. I'm going to give this five more days and if this bullshit continues then it's straight back to the shelter.
