My friends have a rowdy pup and they hardly allow him to interact with people for fear of him being too rough

This might be a stupid thing to be upset about and I'm probably overthinking it... but I have two friends -- a married couple -- who got a puppy a few months back. He's grown to a significant size and he's teething a lot and jumps on people when excited. I dont mind this one bit. We have a group of about 6 who all hang out at their house. When the dog goes up to another person, they'll shoo him away pretty forcefully and he'll wander around to another person. This seems to be what his owners want.

When he comes up to me though... I truly dont mind petting him or allowing him to bit my hand for a moment because after a bit he calms down and begins to relax at my feet. The problem is that his owners seem upset with me allowing him to bite gently or nudge his way into my lap. The most recent time, I brought an old sock and put it on my hands and up my arms so he could chew my arm without hurting me. That's how I got my dog through his teething phase and it worked well. They seemed to be mad at me when I did this and quickly pulled him away and put him in his cage. They tell me they're trying to train him not to do that, and they dont want to reinforce these behaviors. He cried from the cage the rest of the night when he could have quietly chewed my arm.

I'm really just writing this to vent. People can take care of their pets however they want. I'm just upset that this pup why clearly enjoys my attention gets denied the affection. I feel like the teething phase is neccessary and if they dont let him bite now while he's young it might cause problems. Though, I dont know enough on the topic to debate.
