Newly adopted cat finally came out of hiding, suddenly very vocal with tiny voice. Is this normal?

Hello. I adopted a cat about a day ago and the first thing he did was hide under the bed. I let him stay under there and left food, water, and litter out. He would eat and drink when I wasn't in the room or was asleep, and I think he's using the litter box. The litter has been disturbed, and there's some out on the outside of the box now too. It occurs to me that I can just scoop and check, not sure why that didn't before.

Regardless, I came home from work today and filled his food bowl, which caused him to pop out from under the bed and switched back and forth between chowing down and coming over for petting. He has, however, not stopped meowing since he was fed. It doesn't bother me, it's honestly kind of funny. Every other cat I've been around has had a deep "MOW" kind of voice when they rarely made noise, but this one has the tiniest squeak of a "mewl" and does it constantly.

He seems fine and social now, and only shoots back to the bed if you move quickly around him, but I didn't want to assume everything was fine, since I've never been around a cat this vocal, or with this tiny a voice before.
