My dog has been rushed three times, one of them resulting in an attack, by three separate unleashed dogs in the last two weeks just walking around the block. She’s 55 pounds of muscle and I fully believe if I had let her go, she could have easily defended herself and won, but that’s not the issue. We are in the city and there are leash laws here. Dogs will not always respond to a command to come back, and believing they always will listen should not be used as an excuse to not have your dog on a leash. The president of our neighborhood association has his dog off leash playing in their front yard all the time. Our dogs LOVE playing together and we’ve never had an issue with her in particular, but I feel like I can’t go to him as he’s one of the many people who don’t feel a need to be a responsible pet owner. I don’t know where to go or who to talk to to actually make a difference, but I’m at a point now where I’ll be driving my dog somewhere else to walk her.
